| Plenty of smiling faces and why not as Redruth U11's make this a comfortable win at Beacon. With the match being played at Beacons third team ground, it seemed runs would be hard to come by because of the state of the outfield. Children need/should be given ever opportunity to play on the best conditions and on the night this was not to be the case. The welcome from Sean and the team was not in question, and the spirit that the game was played in was excellent.
Redruth won the toss and decided to field. From the off Redruth took control with captain William Harris and Ben Dawson opening the Reds attack. In the first 5 overs Beacon were one wicket down for only 11 runs. The scoring system at this age group is complicated, but it enables teams to be always batting in Black figures. The teams also bat in two over pairs, this all sounds more complicated than it really is.
Redruth continued to bowl well through their spell James Rowe, Chris Eden and Andrew Martin looking particularly good with the ball. At the end of there inning Beacon scored 192.
John McNamee opened the bowling for Beacon and was tidy against the open pair of Chris Eden and Andrew Martin. But the Reds kept the score board ticking over. The match pairing that followed were Ben Dawson and Hayden Jackson, Jamie Roberts and Daniel Rutter, Charles Dean and James Rowe with the final pairing of William Thomas and William Harris. I thought 'fours' were going to be rare in this match, but James Rowe and William Harris were to prove me wrong, with strong batting performances. Redruth powered their way to a final total of 290 to win by 98 runs.
Coaches Steven Kevern and U13's Manager Paul Hancock congratulated the squad on not only the result but the overall quality of the cricket that was played. Thanks to Sean and the parent of Beacon who as always made us most welcome.
