Redruth CC Vinter Cup update……….

Having been given a bye by the withdrawal of Mawnan Smith in the first round, Redruth travelled down to Perran-ar-Worthal on Tuesday 29^th May to play in their first Vinter Cup game of the season. 

The game started at 18.09 hrs with Perran having won the toss and putting themselves into bat.  Right from the start, Perran were clearly aggressively attacking the ball and took 15 runs off the first over, which included 2 boundaries…both 6’s.  Eventually, Perran finished with 106 for 7, setting Redruth a ‘gettable’ total. 

Redruth bowlers: Paul Riley 4-0-24-2, Phil Bostock 5-0-22-3 and Martin Strick 5-2-6-2.

In reply, Redruth under the captaincy of Dave Simpson, opened with Pete Thomas and Steve Kevern, who put on a partnership of 17 before Pete was bowled by Curt Murphy, next in was left hander Adam Strick, who put on 10 runs before being bowled by Murphy – at this point, the wicket fell at 30 runs in the 6^th over.  Richard “Charlie” Brown was next in and was stumped for 3 runs by wicket keeper Gareth Davis – fall of wicket at 42 in the 8^th over.  Next to the crease was Ben Stevens who put on a partnership of 57 with Steve Kevern, before Steve was finally bowled by Murphy, 2 balls after reaching his 50^th run….a lovely innings by young Steve Kevern.  Aaron Penberthy was the last batsman to the crease, coming in during the 15^th over and he and Ben batted on to completion…with Redruth reaching 107 off a cleanly hit 6 from Ben Stevens off the 5^th ball of the 14^th over.
