Redruth Ladies vs St Just
Redruth Ladies entertain St Just ladies to Trewirgie. Thanks to ladies captain Sarah Stevens for the following report.
Redruth CC v St Just – match report, Sunday 22nd June 2008

Redruth lost the toss and were put into bat by St Just on what was a dry, but very winding early afternoon start.

Redruth opened with Nikki Kelman and Jo Jobson, unfortunately during the third over at the crease, the first wicket of the day fell.  This transpired to be the predominant pattern for the remainder of the first innings with only opener Nikki maintaining stability at the crease for a sustained period.

New playing member Hannah McNamee and Captain Sarah Stevens each spent around four overs at the crease and were  therefore able to gain some match experience, however in all, a disappointing batting performance from Redruth on this occasion; which was compounded by 3 LBW decisions being given during the innings.

Redruth 42/10 off 19.2 overs

In reply, St Just opened with Captain Katy Whitaker and H Reece, who got off to a positive start with the bat.

Redruth opened the bowling with Becky Kennedy from the cemetery end and in her second over, took the wicket of Preece after a superb catch in the slips by Nikki Kelman who confidently took the ball after a deflection from wicket keeper Hannah McNamee.

After this early in-road, despite their best efforts, Redruth failed to gain another wicket and with a low score to chase down, St Just reached 43 runs by the 8th over without much difficulty.  Redruth worked hard in the field and kept focused and positive through out.

St Just 43/1 off 8 overs.

Managers Comments:- this was a disappointing return after the Falmouth game, but as the saying goes...'that's cricket'. What was encouraging was that at last we can field a full side, infact this match we had a 12th man. The ladies smiles do not drop, even when there are doubtful decisions....if umpires are going to call LBW's maybe the should also study the wides and no balls laws. Also we are fielding well and the bowling is getting tighter. Becky Kennedy is looking sharp with the ball, with Sarah Stevens looking good at first change.

Thanks to St Just for a great game and sportsmanship, well done to Nikki Kelman for a superb 26, looked the most capable bat on the day for either side, although Katy Whitaker for St Just is a very capable bat.

Again male cricket players could learn alot of postive sporting attributes from the ladies game.
