2011 Youth Presentations

The function room at the Trewirgie clubhouse was full to capacity with youth players and their families on Friday 7th October.

Julian Faull, Chairman of the youth section at Redruth CC welcomed players and their families to the evening and began the evening’s proceedings with a resume of the youth season at Redruth CC.

“The club’s youth section has enjoyed a promising season of cricket with a considerable number of young cricketers also playing adult league cricket on a regular basis.

The Rising Stars, our youngest age group - played three competitive matches, two against local rivals Camborne.  They enjoyed a comfortable win against Perranporth and lost at home, but won away against Camborne.

The U11s won the Duchy District League which meant a place in the county finals at Werrington, at which they won a nail-biting semi-final against Lewdown to earn a place in the final against Paul.  Unfortunately, the weather deteriorated as the day progressed and resulted in abandonment of the final on the day.  After two attempts to replay the final at the end of the season and with the September weather against us, unfortunately all attempts proved to be unsuccessful.  The aim now is to play the final at the start of next season.  The u11s were runners-up at this year’s St Gluvias Festival, so all in all have had a very successful season.

I’m delighted to say that five Redruth u11s have this year represented Cornwall with the Cornwall Schools Cricket Association u11’s team and they were Piran Kent (CSCA u 11’s Captain), George Bolland, Alasdair Faull and Ellis Whiteford and Daisy Allsopp playing for the CSCA girls’ u13 team

With last year’s u13 squad moving to u15’s level en masse, there was lack of genuine u13s age range players at Redruth this year, which meant that the majority of the side was made up of players from the u11s age group.  Although there were a couple of early season defeats, in the cup against St Just and in the league against Troon, I’m pleased to say that the season finished well with victories against Mount Ambrose, St Erme and Beacon – an excellent achievement from such a young side..

The highlight of the u15s’ season was winning the Plate at the St Gluvias Festival; a tournament that also saw Tom Sobey hit 91 not out against St Austell.  The side also finished a creditable third in the league”.
Julian concluded with thanks to all those who’d helped with the youth section this year, in particular Peter Bolland, Mark and Susan Richards and the ground staff.

The Mo Hartmann Trophy
– Luke Johnson
First team opener Luke Johnson (now 18) was awarded the Mo Hartmann Trophy for the Youth Player of the Year.  He scored 734 league runs, including 149 against Truro.  Director of Cricket Peter Bolland told the young cricketers that they should look upon Luke as a role model and he was proof that if you were good enough, age did not matter.

With the conclusion of the presentation of awards, Club President Barrie Prisk thanked the youth section coaches and managers for their efforts throughout the season.
