01/08/11 A busy day at Redruth on Saturday and a full-on weekend of activities With Redruth hosting the County 1 ‘top of the table clash’ on Saturday, prior to the Senior match starting at 1.30pm, a ‘Rising Stars’ under 9’s match took place between Redruth’s ‘Red Dragons’ and ‘Camborne Lions’. The Lions batted first and scored 246 runs, some fine bowling from Callum Davies and Marcus Rogers impressed the large crowd. In reply, the Dragons made 217 runs – the Lions line and length bowling contained the Dragons with the bat, although Jarrod Hambly showed fine form with a top score of 20 runs. The match provided a wonderful start to the cricketing day and was played in great spirit. After the match, both teams enjoyed a well deserved sausage and chips treat by the ladies of RCC social committee. |

20/05/11 Kayleigh nominated for Youth Charity Trust Evening Our youth nominee for this year's Redruth Charity Trust eremony is girls cricketer Kayleigh Richards (Left in top picture). She will represent Redruth CC against other youth from the town. It would be good to have as many members (playing and non-playing) from Redruth CC as possible to support Kayleigh's nomination at The Twighlight Zone on Sunday. We’re also anticipating being awarded a rather useful bit of kit (we applied for a Kanon training machine .. the one that fires out ‘slaz balls’ and helps with fielding drills etc, etc) and are crossing fingers/toes that we get it .. therefore a BIG turnout of Redruth CC representation would be most welcomed at the event, to show what a ‘strong’ club we are!! |
After many years of work with the Club's Youth, Paul Hancock has passed on the reigns of Youth Organiser onto Julian Faull who will now deal with all matters concerning our Youth teams. Paul will still continue to manage the U-15's youth team with Julian starting as Rising Stars manager. The Clubs youth setup continues to be one of the best in the county with fresh young talents constantly passing through the ranks. We hope for another successful season!
Please Note: Rising Stars sessions will begin again on the 7th May from 10:30-12:00. Sessions are open to all kids under the age of 9 and are FREE! Call 01209 212446 or 07745994527 for more info!
Last weekend, Redruth CC took part in the annual Natwest Cricketforce weekend in a bid to get the ground ready for the new season.
Despite a poor turnout of volunteers, plenty of effort was made and even though there is still much work to be done, the Pavilion and surrounding areas received a fresh lick of paint, the kitchen and the function room got a good clean out and lighting was checked and made safe.
Thanks to the volunteers that helped out! Your help is truely appreciated!
We must urge though that there is still plenty of work needed to be done before the season. It is not too late to lend a hand. Send an email to Sarah Stevens who will be happy to help you!

Catch up on Liam Norwell's progress down under from the man himself! (Thanks to Gloucestershire CC)
The academy has been very tough since restarting after the Christmas break, with regular fitness testing and hard training, including a new power regime in the gym and running the dreaded snake pit. The academy is very fitness based which has already shown great results but also can be very frustrating especially when we do a net session or skills after, because you are physically and mentally fatigued. However, knowing that you can go out and perform after a very hard session is extremely rewarding in itself and helps mentally during long days fielding in the heat.
We have played two mixed games with the SA Redbacks since Christmas and two before, which have been both good experiences and positive learning curves for me. It has also meant that I have been able to bowl to first class players regularly in preparation for the forthcoming English county season. I have had some reasonable results against the Redbacks taking 4-36, 2-28, 1-19 and 1-25 across the four games.
Due to the hard training since the Christmas break my game has noticeably improved, with a slight change to my action and a slightly longer run up, from coaching with Paul 'Blocker' Wilson. I am hitting the pitch a lot harder and focusing on powering through the crease towards my target. I feel I am now bowling the best I have since I came out here, with more pace and consistency, which has all added up to me taking my season best figures of 19overs 5-38 at the weekend playing grade cricket for West Torrens.
What has also been very pleasing for me is now having a bit more confidence with the bat, although I’m still a double figure batsman, I feel a lot more comfortable at the crease, but this of course is a very important area for me to continue to work on because lower order runs are obviously very useful.
I hope I continue my good form and rhythm with the ball and get some more wickets under my belt before my return home in mid-March.
Liam Norwell
Trewigie, one of the finest cricket grounds in Cornwall will have the honour of hosting the Cornwall 20/20 Finals day in August.
Although the date has not yet been confirmed, it is expected to take place on Sunday 14th August where winners from all 4 groups of Cornwall will play in 2 semi finals, ending in a grand Final.
Hosting the finals is a massive boost for the club who are set to gain financially from this event and will be the perfect opportunity for the Club to show off its First Class ground and facilities.

The youth section of Redruth Cricket Club are currently benefitting from the generosity of equipment received from the Redruth Charity Trust – Youth Sports Award.
With indoor winter training taking place on Friday evenings 5-6pm during February and March months at the Redruth School sports hall, Youth Coach Mark Richards is finding the recently awarded ‘cricket coaching mat’ and additional ‘bola’ and ‘slazballs’ (used with mechanised bowling systems) greatly aiding the winter training sessions for the youngsters; equipment that will also continue to benefit and enhance training sessions during the summer playing months – providing valuable, year round training aids.
Chris Hailey, Chairman of RCT – YSA, recently went along to watch a youth training session in progress and presented the equipment to Mark and the youngsters. On behalf of the RCT, Chris was encouraged to see so many youngsters training and was delighted to see how the equipment donated by the charity trust will greatly enhance and benefit the keen sporting youngsters in their chosen sport.
Redruth Charity Trust work tirelessly to secure sponsorship from local businesses and always look to increase their portfolio, so that sports clubs within the TR15 / TR16 postcode area’s, with club members aged 7-18 years, can benefit from awards of sports equipment / clothing etc. For further information, Chris Hailey may be contacted on 01209 218581 after 7pm.
Youngsters interested in knowing more about the youth cricket training sessions may contact Mark Richards on 01209 215856
redruthcc.co.uk will be launching a new feature to make it easier for players to find out where they have to be every Saurday.
Team sheets for every game this season will be posted on the website around 3 days before the game itself to give players an easier way of finding out when and where they have to be come Saturday afternoon.
The first team sheet will be released on the 27th April.
It may be the first meeting of the two clubs in the league for a while but the rivalry has not been lost. A facebook event has been created for the players of Redruth 3rds and Mt Ambrose 2nds to begin the 'war of words' before Redruth ultimately settle it on the pitch.
Mt Ambrose player Tom Berryman said,
'I created the site even though I know we will loose. Redruth are a far better team than us'
The big game will take place on the 4th June at Clijah.

After a busy first season for the website, it was obvious to me that changes needed to be made to improve the overall look and to make it easier to update and maintain.
One of the main changes is obviously the look, every page will be displaying one of 9 new pictures along the top. This has been done to give a sense of community, friendship and activity that this club promotes through its cricket.
It has now become easier than ever to find the blogs from our two contributors. Bolly's Blogs and Julian's Jottings have now been given their own page so all their blogs can be seen at a glance. You can find links to their pages on the top of the Latest News Page and at the bottom of the Main page.
3 new sections have also been added to give the users more to look at. Player Profiles have been added and hopefully as more players get their answers in, the page should provide a great read for all! Also new to the site is our Archive section which houses every single game from the 2010 season. As seasons finish, this section should expand. Finally, a youth section is now online where you can get the latest on all the goings on around our younger players.
I hope you all enjoy your new website! If you have any suggestions please let me know through my email on the Contact Us page.

There have been a few major changes already this winter. The most notable change is the change of captaincy in the 1XI. Martin Strick has made way for Nigel Hambley after the former resigned as captain. Nigel will have the important task of trying to get the 1XI into the Premier League after a few near misses. potentially returing to Redruth could be County youth player Luke Johnson.
Ben Page has kept his role as 2XI captain after a hands down win and is looking at nearby clubs for a few new players. More news to follow soon we hope!
There will hopefully be many new faces in the 3XI team this year with the possibility of Andrew and Ryan Mitchell joining the Reds from Stithians. Matt Richards remains as captain after a very successful debut season for the young skipper.
The talk around the club is that former Red David James could be returning to his old club to play for the 4ths after a spell away with Camborne and Beacon. Despite his drop in pace, he will be a real asset to Julian Faull and his young team.
